This is why I doula. This is why I educate. If for no other reason than to say, THIS IS NOT OK. Part of my heart breaks every time I read another trauma story revealed. Part is angered to know this is happening TODAY. IN AMERICA. And then I go back to the beginning. Educate. Support. “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Thank you, Hayley, for giving and sharing.
Instagram #Repost @stellmeastory / Hayley Stell Photography with @repostapp・・・This past weekend I had the honor of volunteering at the ImprovingBirth.org Rally in Clarksville. We had a good turn out to help raise money and awareness for the crisis in America that we call maternity care. I was asked to photograph the individuals that chose to share why THEY want to improve birth and there was one woman in particular that stood out to me. As she started to write out her sign, she began to cry. As she finished writing I read what she had written, and I cried with her. I gave her the tightest hug I could, because at that moment I know I needed that hug as much as she did. It took everything in her to write down her experience and the fear that she lives with daily since this traumatic experience. I can only say, that this woman is one of the bravest I have ever met, to share her story in hopes that someday others will be able to Birth without fear.
